May TBR

Pinch punch…first of the month, and also time to introduce my May TBR list!

I’ve set myself an unimpressive four reads for this month. I normally don’t set myself too many books to read as I am trying to fit reading in with the rest of my life.

However, as I’m expecting at least half of May to be in still in lockdown, I’m hoping I can get these ticked off my list!

The Giver of Stars – Jojo Moyes

Firstly, how gorgeous is this book? If you’re lucky to have a copy, you know how beautiful the inside is too.

I actually started reading this book a few months ago but that was just after my back injury and I was dosed up on all sorts of medicine and unsurprisingly, I didn’t get past the first few chapters.

So it’s on my must-read list for May because a beautiful book like this just needs to be read.

Such A Fun Age – Kiley Reid

This book arrived pre-lockdown…that shows just long this book has been on my bookcase for.

I have been wanting to read this book for so long, since listening to a podcast where she read the first few pages and discussed her influences in writing this novel.

I think it is quite like a book I have previously read called Queenie, focusing on the struggles that a young black woman endures in modern society.

It is definitely one I can’t wait to read.

Beloved – Toni Morrison

This book was included in my April Books That Matter (BTM) subscription box and it’s just beautiful.

I have never even heard of this book before BTM announced that it was their April book. I know that is really quite shocking behaviour and I hope you can forgive me.

I’ve heard such good things about this novel and my friend told me that she read this for one of her university courses, so I can’t wait to get my English Lit graduate head on and see what it has to offer.

I’m expecting BIG things.

The Color Purple – Alice Walker

Yet another stunning book…shock horror!

I have wanted to read this for some time now. When I posted on my Instagram story that this book had arrived in the mail, I had so many messages saying that people couldn’t read it because it made them cry.

I love a good emotional book so I can’t wait to get stuck into this one. Interestingly enough, when it was first published it was banned. And as I’m a fan of a controversial book (probably because I LOVE the drama), I can’t wait to see what the pages of this book holds.

The Book of Longings – Sue Monk Kidd

OK. I have been waiting FOUR years to have this book in my hands. FOUR YEARS. Recently published, my favourite author’s new book is out and sitting proudly on my book trolley.

I cannot wait to read this. I recently watched her and Glennon Doyle (author of Untamed) discuss this book as part of Sue’s virtual book tour and it was so heartwarming to watch.

They were both so so passionate about the book and the poetic writing that Sue (always) includes. Safe to say, I am struggling to contain my excitement for this.

So there we have it…my May TBR List.

I would love to know if any of these books are on your TBR lists too.

Or perhaps you’ve already had the pleasure of reading some of these.

Let me know your thoughts, you know that I always look forward to hearing your comments!

Happy reading!
